How do you feel about immigrants getting their citizenship by serving in the military?

Over 200 US service members received their citizenship in the past couple of days. Do you think that serving in the US armed forces is an acceptable way to get citizenship?

  1. I have no problem with this. These folks immigrated legally, vulunteered to serve their "new" country, and have now become naturalized citizens. Why would this be unacceptable?
  2. If they help to fight terrorism , why not ?
  3. I have no problem. They came here legally and then their 1st act was to serve the country they are trying to immigrate to. That is fantastic in my book. More than a lot of natural born people are willing to do. If they come here illegally then no. But the military doesnt accept them anyway and I hope they never do
  4. I think it's alot more than some people do for this country. The people who were just lucky enough to be born here, but whine and complain about it- they don't do anything. I'm all for helping people get their citizenship if they show their love and respect of the country by serving in the armed forces.
  5. Great !!!!!!!!!!!! The Iraish that immagrated to the USA during the civil war were drafted in the military right off the boat. Imagine you land in the north and yoru brother landed in the south. You two now had to fight each other in a war you didnt start and had very little idea about. But you did it because you loved the country more than yourself. That is what makes America great. Not the government but the great people who went before us!!!!!!!
  6. I am all for it. I have served with a couple of Mexicans, a Brit, and an Indian that joined so they could get their citizenship. They all spoke English, were outstanding soldiers and dedicated. The Brit made the military a career, the Indian and one of the Mexicans did a couple of tours before they got out.
  7. why shouldn't they. if they are willing to sign up for a number of years in said army, go to war and make a strong bond with the other troops, then yes. they have done the dirty work for bush, so its the least he could do.
  8. Yes. I think it is great. If they don't get special treatment and serve as long as is required, 4-5 years, they should qualify for citizenship.
  9. Absolutely, they came here legally, and fought for the Country they want to join
  10. The Romans did it... look where it got them.
  11. Yes, In order for them to have joined the Armed Forces they would have had to come legally. To me it would seem to be a quicker path than the normal red tape you get at INS.
  12. I can't think of a better candidate for naturalization than a person who is willing to lay down his life for his new country.
  13. It is OK
  14. yes, why not. I respect them more then the american born person who chooses to not serve.
  15. I feel that it is a fair and honorable way to become a US citizen.
