How was the U.S. Constitution designed to limit democracy and individual liberty?
Public Comments
- It was'nt. It was designed to limit the government and to maximize individual liberty. All within ethical reason that is, or until the government tries to rewrite it towards their advantage. Which they have.
- It's just the opposite. The US Constitution was designed to throttle the power of the government, not the individual. When commentators call the GOP "the Party of NO," I like to point out the the Constitution uses the word "NO" and/or the phrase "SHALL NOT" forty-three times. The First, and arguably the most important, Amendment begins with the words, "Congress shall make no law..." Because it's designed to limit the federal government in favor of the states and her people, it is among the sparsest of legal documents. Printed on the page our founding document runs about 14 pages in length. Contrast that to the new constitution of the European Union with it's expansive bureaucracy - 450 pages.
- If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers.
