What requirements are needed for a Canadian to claim dual British citizenship?

My father was born in the UK, is it possible for me to claim dual citizenship in any way?

  1. Sure. You can just apply and get a UK passport easy peasy. Deal though if you were born outside of the UK and your birth was not registered in time you will get a passport but it will be of the kind that you can't pass down to your kids. Unless you go live there. But again since your father was born in the UK there is no problem. The UK does not recognize any renounciations made to any other country so if your father did not fill out formal papers with the UK he remains a UK citizen. So you are all set.
  2. I believe you are already a UK citizen, you just need to apply with the documentation at the closest UK Embassy (consular services). Contact them for a list of documents required in your circumstances. Congrats to since now you can live and work in the UK, many of her possessions and all over the EU with no restrictions. Go see the world and have fun.
